  • 1968 – B.A. Honours, with First Class Honours,  Univ. of Manitoba, Canada. Major:  Sociology. (B.A. Honours is a 4 year degree instead of 3.) (First year was taken at Hebrew Univ. sociology major, 1965-6.)

Honours and Awards

  • 2018 – Invited as one of 20 “world-class distinguished female scholars” in urban studies, to take part in the distinguished lectures series at KTH – Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
  • 2017 – Selected as one of 16 International Key Thinkers in Planning.    The academic autobiography of each scholar is published in Encounters in Planning Thought: Autobiographical Essays from Key Thinkers in Planning. Ed. Beatrix Haselsberger. 2017. Routledge.
  • May 16, 2017 – Award for Exceptional Contribution to Planning Law and Policy in Israel,  by the organizers of the annual Conference on Planning Law, Tel Aviv.
  • May 2015 – Awarded Certificate of Excellence as Journal Peer Reviewer – Liverpool University Press for Town Planning Review (one of 2 persons selected; this is the first time the award is granted, thus the selection is from all reviewers over many years).  Click for more.
  • May 2014 – Selected as one of fifteen leaders in planning thought, in project: Encounters in Planning Thought.  Includes book and lecture series.
  • July 2012 – Awarded a rare Honorary Membership of AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning)
  • September 2010 – Best Conference Paper Award at the RICS Legal Research Symposium, COBRA 2010 annual Conference held at Dauphine Université Paris, 2 & 3 September 2010.
  • February 2010 – named First Honorary Fellow of the International Academic Association on Planning, Law and Property Rights.
  • April 2009. Awarded the prestigious national “Landau Prize for Academic Achievements” in the category of “urban studies”. Prize committee statement: “undoubtedly the leading researcher in Israel in the area of urban planning”.
  • July 2007 –  Recipient of a special “Certificate of Appreciation” for “special dedication” granted by theAssociation of the European Schools of Planning (where I established the Planning and Law track that laterevolved into the International Academic Association for Planning, Law and Property Rights). The only suchaward granted, and the only non-European to be honored by AESOP.  At the annual congress held in Napoli
  • March 2007 – Recipient of the Israel Planners’ Distinguished Award (Yekir HaTichnun) for 2007 (the highest honor in the planning field in Israel granted by the Israel Planners’ Association).
  • April 1998 – Award by the American Planning Association for Best Paper of the Year in the Journal of theAmerican Planning Association (1997 years).  (the first time the prestigious award was given to a non-American).
  • January 1998 –  selected by  Mivnim  – the monthly journal of the construction sector in Israel – as “Person ofthe Year” for 1997.  For the contribution that my research has made to planning and building practice.
  • March 1997 – “Shield of the Minister of Environmental Quality”  – prize for research report on Planning for Women, 1996.  With Arza Churchman as lead author, and others.
  • Nov. 1990 – Local Government Prize for research publications in urban planning.  Awarded by Rabbi Arie Derii, the Minister of the Interior, for publications on developer obligations for public services in Israel and in several other countries.
  • Jan. 1989 – The Ben-Shemesh Prize in Land Policy and Law;  for research report titled:  “AlternativeMethods for Obtaining Land for Public Facilities: Legal Aspects and Planning Considerations”. With research assistant:  Ms. Miri Vitek.
  • May  1985 – The Zilbiger Prize in Local Government Law, awarded by the Israel Bar Association, City of Tel-Aviv, and the Tel-Aviv University Faculty of Law, for paper on Exactions of Land for Public Services (while studying for my law degree at TAU).
  • April 1980 – Research and Science Prize of the Association of Local Government; awarded by the Minister of the Interior in the presence of the President of Israel.
  • 1971-1975 – Technion Graduate Scholarships (for doctoral studies).
  • 1968 – 1970 University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (awarded to students with the highest excellence campus-wide)
  • 1970 – American Planning Association Best Student Award at the University of Manitoba, 1970.

  • February 2008 – Jan 2015 – Co-head, Graduate Program for the Master of Real Estate Degree, Technion.. Jointly with Prof. Yerach Doytsher. (This is Israel’s first degree in real estate that I initiated, and then co-founded with Prof.  Doytsher)
